Tick-Borne Encephalitis Vaccine

Inactivated vaccine protecting against the tick-borne encephalitis virus prevalent in forested parts of Europe and Central Asia.
Who needs it
- •Backpackers and campers spending time in rural or forested areas of Scandinavia, Austria, the Baltics, or Russia
- •Adventure travelers undertaking long cycling or hiking trips in spring/summer
Dosage & protection
Doses: Two doses 1-3 months apart with a third after 5-12 months; booster every 3-5 years if risk remains.
Protection: About 3 years after the primary series; boosters extend immunity.
Preparation tips
- •Begin the course at least 1 month before peak tick season
- •Wear long sleeves and use DEET-based repellents even after vaccination
Possible side effects
- •Mild redness or swelling at the injection site
- •Short-lived headache or fatigue
